Welcome to the island of Ischia in the Bay of Naples - a destination full of hidden gems to uncover. Idyllic scenery, thermal springs and Italian glamour are just a few of the reasons to travel here, not to mention the glistening coastline.

If you’re wondering where the best areas to stay are, let us transport you to a few towns on the north coast: Ischia Porto, Ischia Ponte, Forio and Lacco Ameno.

Lacco Ameno

This quaint town is perhaps one of the most picturesque on the entire island. Buildings are painted pretty pastel colours and fishing boats float in the small marina; it boasts a certain seaside charm. Spend a quiet week here, taking it slow and soaking up the sun. Make your way to San Montano Beach, to paddle in the shallow waves of the bay.

Don’t miss out on a trip to Negombo Thermal Gardens. This unique spa is made up of multiple pools from hot springs (which can be found all across volcanic Ischia). Visitors come to relax in the natural saunas that have been cut out of the rocks and overlook the coast. They all vary in temperature, so you can choose your preferred spot as you soak in the warm water.

Forio

The harbour town of Forio is full of busy shops, cafes and bars, but it also has an appealing historic centre. Stop by Il Torrione Museum, a watchtower that was built in 1480 and used to keep a close eye on any possible invaders, or pirates! As well as this, you’ll find Chiesa del Soccorso, a white church offering beautiful views across the water.

Plus, active holidaymakers and nature lovers will jump at the chance to hike up Mount Epomeo, the island’s tallest mountain. Take in the sublime surroundings as you walk up the stunning slopes covered in lush greenery. Or, if you’d rather take it easy, why not meander through La Mortella Gardens, awash with subtropical and Mediterranean plant life?

Ischia Porto and Ponte

Known by locals as simply “Ischia”, the main town on the island draws lots of visitors, but can be split into two distinct areas: Porto and Ponte.

History buffs will be in their element in Ischia Ponte, with several nearby sites (such as the Aragonese Castle) just waiting to be explored. Stroll along the causeway which connects Ischia to a rocky outlet, and you’ll discover a dramatic medieval fortress standing alone in the sea. This is now home to many exhibitions and exciting cultural events, so it’s well worth seeing.

Ischia Porto is a lively location which offers plenty in the way of nightlife. Shops on the high streets remain open until late, meaning you can browse long into the evening. Then, savour a delicious meal at one of the inviting restaurants before enjoying a cocktail or two.
