From Cologne to Rüdesheim, Germersheim (Speyer), Strasbourg (Kehl), Mainz, Loreley Valley and Koblenz to Cologne.
Even UNESCO fell in love with the Middle Rhine Valley. This World Heritage Site invites your romantic fantasies to run wild. What kind of adventures did the heroic residents of the mighty castles have? What did they fight for? For faith, countries, power or love? And how much truth is there in the legend about Lorelei and all the sailors who sank in the river’s wild currents (currents that have since been tamed) because of her? A wonderful backdrop to which everyone – not just romantics, but anyone with a vivid imagination and an interest in history – can raise a glass of excellent regional wine. And as you do so, you can recall the wonderful experiences of the past few days and look forward to the coming ones, when you’ll encounter stunning scenes of natural beauty along with some of the most magnificent cities along the Rhine.
From Cologne to Cochem, Trier-Mehring, Bernkastel-Kues and Koblenz to Cologne.
The Moselle has really worked its magic on the landscape here. In primeval times the river found the most beautiful route through the Rhenish Massif, a route full of graceful curves. It then made the hillsides and forests so fertile that it feels like you’re gliding through Tolkien’s legendary Shire. Lush vineyards between cliffs and picturesque villages benefit from a perfect climate. Sunny and mild, it provides ideal conditions for the region’s 2,000-year-old wine tradition. This tradition created a Riesling that is now found in the world’s top restaurants. And in the blossoming villages that seem to belong to another era, the people are equally sunny and cheerful. Everyone takes their time, with the result that visitors also get a wonderful sense of life slowing down a little.
From Frankfurt to Wertheim, Würzburg and Miltenberg to Frankfurt.
This romantic journey along the river Main offers the perfect opportunity to discover picturesque towns while having time to shop and relax. We start in Frankfurt with the lively atmosphere of the city centre and exclusive boutiques on the Zeil. In Wertheim, the northernmost Franconian town in Baden-Württemberg, we immerse ourselves in the historic old town. Würzburg is famous for its baroque and rococo-style buildings, especially the 18th-century Würzburg Residence with its magnificent rooms, a large fresco by the Venetian artist Tiepolo and a richly decorated staircase. With its numerous wine taverns, wine cellars and wineries as well as the characteristic Bocksbeutel, Würzburg is the heart of the Franconian wine region. Another gem on the Main is Miltenberg, where you can browse through the picturesque alleyways and sample local specialities. Relax on a walk along the riverbank and enjoy the romantic atmosphere along the Main.
From Frankfurt to Speyer, Strasbourg, Basel, Breisach and Mainz to Frankfurt.
According to the atlas, there is exactly one Rhine. But there are actually hundreds, because it shows a different side of itself everywhere. Sometimes grim, sometimes lovely. Sometimes enchanting, sometimes mighty. Sometimes enchanted, then clear again. No journey is as varied as a trip on the Rhine. Town houses, cathedrals, castles, palaces? Half-timbered, granite or sandstone? There's nothing here that doesn't exist. The Rhine goes wonderfully well with baroque and gothic architecture and looks great in photos - but its home is actually between wild cliffs and dense forests, between knights' castles and winegrowing villages, whose vineyards it has made fertile in the course of its history.
Spend your time on deck dreaming – but don't miss the dream-like landscape.
