Hidden Gems of Rome You've Never Heard Of

1. Via Margutta

To start, we’ve selected a spot that some visitors might know already, especially if they’re a fan of a certain old movie. This beautiful and narrow street starred in the 1953 film: Roman Holiday. Stroll past vine-covered houses and re-enact your finest Audrey Hepburn or Gregory Peck moment.

2. Aventine Hill

Next up is Aventine Hill, one of the seven hills of Rome. As well as being quieter than Palatine Hill, this location offers stunning panoramic views of the Tiber River and the surrounding area.

The best part about venturing here? Waiting in the gardens of the Villa del Priorato di Malta, where the hedges present a framed view of St. Peter’s Basilica. If they’re not open, don’t worry; you can peek through the keyhole, which lines up perfectly. On top of that, you can wander along the lush orange garden.

3. Aqueduct Park

This public park sits by the Appian Way and is approximately 9km from the centre. It actually gets its name from the expanse of huge Roman aqueducts that run through it. This is a great place to go when you feel like escaping the busy crowds, while the immense aqueducts are truly something to behold.

4. Largo di Torre Argentina

These ruins are just a seven-minute walk from the Pantheon and are known to be the site of Julius Caesar’s death. What some might fail to see (unless they stop there), is that it's home to over 100 cats. That’s right, there’s a cat sanctuary located in the middle of Rome! After excavations ended, the stray cats settled here and a shelter was set up nearby to care for them.

5. Quartiere Coppedè

Last but not least is the charming Quartiere Coppedè. This local district is full of delightful architecture that is unique to this neighbourhood. Spend a slow afternoon meandering past squares, under archways and admiring sites, such as the intriguingly-named Fountain of the Frogs.
