Kenya is generally considered safe and has one of the most developed tourism sectors in Africa. However, travelling as part of an organised tour in Kenya is safer than independent travel.
Kenya has many highlights and is a popular choice for beach holidays as well as safaris. Tourist destinations include Nairobi, Mombasa, Maasai Game Reserve, Lake Nakuru National Park, Samburu, Lake Naivasha, Lamu, Tsavo, Amboseli and Mount Kenya.
Kenyans who work in the tourism industry usually speak good English, but the main language is Kiswahili.
Most of the time you’ll eat in your hotel and lodge, where western cuisine, as well as local dishes, are served. In major cities, there are many restaurants to choose from, and by the coast the fresh seafood is excellent.
A direct flight from the UK to Kenya takes around 8 and a half hours.
Please visit the FCO website for Kenya entry requirements.
The local currency is the Kenya Shilling.
