Take a Tour of the Towns Surrounding Lake Garda

Lake Garda is one of the finest gems in Italy’s crown: its blissful blue waters make it a peaceful haven for all who visit. However, there’s much more to do here than simply seeing the lake itself, as it’s surrounded by a plethora of quaint towns and villages.

Sirmione

Sirmione may be the most well-known destination on the lake, thanks to its serene shores and spas. Unwind on the beach, or go to the famous Aquaria Thermal SPA and treat yourself to a treatment or two. There is plenty to do in this town besides relaxing, though. Sirmione is also packed with culture, which is evident from its spectacular centrepiece: Scaligero Castle. Dating back to the 13th century, this sensational site is one of Italy’s best-preserved castles. Climb to the top of its awe-inspiring tower to catch an unforgettable view of the lake.

Malcesine

Malcesine is another popular place in this region, and it’s not hard to see why. If we could summarise it in one word, it would be “colourful”. The charming, narrow lanes of this wonderful resort are lined with gorgeous Italian buildings, many of which are painted in vibrant shades of yellow, orange and pink.

Although, that is just scratching the surface of what this town has to offer. Go for a leisurely walk, then take a seat in a peaceful local cafe or restaurant to indulge in a deluge of delights.

Alternatively, immerse yourself in the jaw-dropping beauty of the Monte Baldo mountain range. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can ascend 1,600 metres up it on a cracking cable car ride.

Peschiera del Garda

If you’re after somewhere to enjoy a laid-back evening stroll, consider a getaway to Peschiera. Situated on the southern bank of the lake, this timeless town is teeming with history. Head to the defensive walls, Peschiera fortress and the Roman gates (Porta Verona and Porta Brescia) to get a snapshot of the area’s past.

Meanwhile, you could pay a visit to Parco Giardino Sigurtà (regarded as one of Europe’s prettiest parks) before unfurling on a nearby beach. Ensure you wander around the scenic harbour, too. This is a truly beautiful spot, so take your time to fully appreciate the alluring atmosphere.
