Is there any better feeling than lying on a soft beach with sand between your toes and the sun on your face? Bliss.

You simply can’t beat a day by the ocean, let alone at a dreamy Italian island like Sardinia. The bright white beaches here make up a large proportion of the coastline, meaning you’re bound to find a place that’s ideal for a relaxing break. Plus, you can even uncover hidden caves and stunning rock formations, perfect for any self-proclaimed seaside explorers.

Keep reading to discover our top contenders for the best beaches in Sardinia.

Cala Goloritzé

In the town of Baunei, at the southern tip of the Golfo di Orosei, you’ll see Cala Goloritzé, a beach that’s certainly worth journeying to. Once you arrive, you’ll be met with beautiful, dramatic scenery, including a towering, rocky pinnacle and an arch at the end of the bay.

There are a few other sheltered coves along this stretch of coastline which offer the same turquoise water and picturesque settings, but many of them can only be reached by boat, such as Cala Mariolu. However, if you do decide to venture to one, be sure to bring your snorkelling gear so that you can take to the waves.

The Maddalena archipelago

Why settle at just one beach for the day when you can visit a number of remote sands all at once? The Maddalena archipelago lies just off the northeastern edge of Sardinia and is the ultimate destination for a day of island-hopping.

Here, you’ll encounter a bundle of gorgeous natural attractions that are just waiting to be explored, from the clear sea waters to pristine untouched spots. Spend the morning sunbathing at the aptly named Spiaggia Rosa beach, which boasts a unique, pink-tinted shore, before exploring one of the uninhabited areas.

Spiaggia del Principe

Portu Li Coggi is a beach on the outstanding Costa Smeralda, a glamorous section of coast famous for its association with Karim Aga Khan IV. He arrived at this part of the island by chance in the 1960s and immediately fell in love with the area’s nature and beauty. After his trip, this pretty shore became known as Spiaggia del Principe (Prince’s Beach).

Visitors come for the fine sand and to make the most of the Mediterranean climate. While this beach can be reached by car and features an array of amenities, it still feels like you’ve stumbled upon a secluded space, thanks to the bordering shrubbery.
