The pleasant, tranquil little town of Les Andelys occupies an idyllic spot surrounded by nature on the bank of the Seine. It is known for its castle, Château Gaillard. Although it is nothing more than a vast ruin nowadays, it’s easy to imagine Richard the Lionheart keeping watch here for the advance of the enemy – the French – through the Seine valley.
